How does the membership work?

You pay an annual or monthly membership fee. It covers your office visits, annual GYN exam, hormone visits, annual blood work, body composition scans, nutrition counseling, and after-hours access for urgent matters. Because the practice keeps membership small, appointments run longer and are easier to get.

What is Concierge Care?

Concierge Care is an enhanced access plan for patients who prefer a premium healthcare product. Patients with Concierge Care pay an annual fee (or monthly payments) that covers their membership in the practice, as well as all office visits and an annual exam. In addition, Concierge Care patients have direct access to their provider by phone and email.

What's the benefit to joining a practice that offers Concierge Care models?

The model benefits both patients and providers. The practice accepts fewer patients so our providers can develop stronger relationships with patients, allowing for a more comprehensive, personalized approach. Patients can see their provider, or one in the practice, the same day an urgent appointment is needed. By seeing fewer patients in a day, we spend more time together, give more personalized care, act as your advocate, and lower healthcare costs overall.

Will you take my insurance?

Accepted Answer

Not for anything your membership covers. Insurance often limits treatment options, so the practice works outside of it and our office does not file insurance claims. You can still use your insurance when Dr. Bone refers you for care the membership doesn't include, such as additional labs, imaging, procedures, or surgery. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, you may be able to submit some visits yourself, and a Health Savings Account (HSA) may reimburse some visit-related costs.

Will you accept Medicare?

Our providers are considered non-participating providers of Medicare. However, all of our providers can refer to specialists, hospitals and imaging facilities. If a patient has a managed care plan or Medicare, those visits, hospital stays, and imaging are typically covered by your insurance (unless you have a Medicare Advantage HMO or Medicaid).

Will I have email and cellphone access to my provider?

Yes. Direct access is part of membership. During office hours, call the office or message us through the patient portal. After hours, text (504) 526-1771 for urgent issues that can't wait until morning.

Will you have access to my medical records?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we can access your medical records through a Health Information Exchange (HIE) in our electronic medical records system.

Question 8

Do I still need health insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We strongly recommend you carry health insurance to help with costs for services not associated with the practice.

What happens if I need to see a specialist?

Accepted Answer

We can coordinate your visit to a specialist in your insurance network, and they will bill your insurance.

How is your model different than other "boutique" practices?

Accepted Answer

Neither the practice nor the patient is burdened by insurance. Many "boutique" practices charge significantly higher fees, from $3,000 to over $10,000, and still bill insurance at the much higher, insurance-contracted rates, so patients are still subject to visit restrictions, insurance denials and high deductibles. Signature Health goes beyond the traditional primary care practice to specialize in women's healthcare: care for women, designed by women.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. Our membership fees, as well as all ancillary offering fees, are available upon request. Since we do not participate in insurance billing, we are able to secure contracted rates for items such as labs and pharmaceuticals at a much lower rate, often up to 90% lower than what you would pay using your insurance coverage.

What about virtual visits?

We think of virtual visits as a supplement to good care, not a replacement for in-person care. The office can offer these visits in some circumstances when appropriate. Patients who would like to request one should contact the office for prior approval. When a physical exam is necessary, we may recommend an in-office visit.

What about vaccines?

Our practice has some vaccines we can provide at a discounted rate. For patients who want vaccines covered by insurance, we are happy to provide a prescription so they can be given at a local pharmacy when possible.

What about lab and vaccination costs?

Accepted Answer

You have several options. We can direct you to an outside lab and charges can be billed to your insurance. If appropriate, we can draw labs in the office and send them to the lab to bill your insurance. Or we can draw labs in the office and bill you directly at a discounted price.

Question 15

Can I submit my membership fees to my insurance or Health Savings Account?

Accepted Answer

No. Membership means you have a direct financial relationship with the practice, so membership fees are not eligible for insurance reimbursement. You can use your HSA or FSA for visit-related fees, such as an office visit or blood work.

Is my membership fee tax deductible?

Accepted Answer

Not at this time. There is an ongoing push at the national and state level to allow tax deductions for direct care membership fees.

Question 17

What if I want to cancel my membership?

Accepted Answer

We ask that patients participate in their membership plan for a minimum of six months. After that, if you feel the practice isn't a good fit, you can cancel with 30 days' written notice. Any fees for that month will be prorated to the cancellation date.

Question 18

If I cancel, can I rejoin the practice?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The practice has a limited capacity for patients, but if there is availability, a patient may rejoin.
